Make it your own by using any sauce of choice to coat the cauliflower florets and voilà, you have plant-based wings! These are vegan and vegetarian friendly depending on the sauce and butter you use. They can also be gluten free friendly by using gluten-free flour and Panko! Let me know how you like them by commenting on instagram or send me a message! ENJOY :)
and P.S…using an air fryer cuts this recipe time down and gets the wings crispier than in the oven. But, if you do not have an air fryer, the oven will do! (There are oven instructions below)
Ingredients:
- 1 head cauliflower
- 3/4 cup flour (I used chickpea, or you can sub for GF or all purpose)
- 1/3 cup Panko
- 1 cup milk of choice
- 1/2 teaspoon cumin
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/4 teaspoon pepper
- 2 tablespoons oil or melted butter
- 1 cup sauce (Buffalo, BBQ, Honey Mustard….the list goes on!)
Method:
Pre-heat oven to 450 (if not using an air fryer)
Rough chop cauliflower into medium bite-sized pieces
(The bigger they are the longer they take to cook, but you don’t want them too small)
Mix the flour, Panko, milk & spices until well combined
Toss the cauliflower bites in the batter to coat each piece evenly
(I like to use my hands for this or shake them in a plastic bag)
Line fully coated cauliflower bites on a baking sheet or in the air fryer
Cook in the oven for 25-35 minutes until golden brown and batter is not wet OR Cook in air fryer 15-20 minutes on 375 until golden brown
While cooking, prep your sauce; mix oil or butter with sauce of choice in a bowl
Once cooked (and cauliflower is soft all the way through) transfer the cauliflower wings into the sauce bowl and coat completely
Transfer the fully coated cauliflower bites with sauce back into the oven or air fryer for 5-15 minutes to crisp up even more (optional but recommended)
Once you get your desired crispiness take the wings out, drizzle a bit more sauce and enjoy!
Serve with carrots, celery and any dipping sauce you prefer
